The de Bono Weekly Message - Positive News Agency

The media, and especially the press, are usually full of negative news: murders, attacks, economic failures etc. It may be that experience has indeed shown that negative matters are of more interest to readers. Even if this is so, I believe that at least one page of positive news would be welcomed by readers. Readers would turn to this page - even if they found the negative stuff more interesting.  Editors might agree with me. Then they would ask where positive stuff is to come from. Negative stuff comes easily from the police or the law courts. But where is the source of positive stuff.

So my suggestion is that someone sets up a ‘Positive News Agency’. This would be a news agency like Reuters. It would collect positive news and make it available on demand.

I am the author of The Artist Within, A Guide to Becoming Creaively Fit. I will be presenting a PACE session at this year’s CPSI Conference. I wanted to refer you to another website: http://www.staytunedwithjen.com She was a news anchor in Chicago (her Dad was THE sports anchor in Chicago in the 80’s-90’s) anyway in her book, Stay Tuned by Jen Weigel, she talks about her pursuit of covering positive news. She has taken some stabs at exactly what you are talking about. I will send her this link as well. Hope you check her out (and my book)! It is all about spreading the positive energy to create CHANGE!

Is this maybe the first time in history that someone actually went in search of positive news I wonder. It would require some really special comprehension of what PN actually is, given the cultural factors at play in deciding. Somehow everybody knows what bad news is but good news has many people baffled.

It’s a bit like humour. Some people get the joke , some people will never get the joke. This bafflement has something to do with cultural boundaries, often.

    Also,

Jen Weigel tells us we should “follow our own truth”. How would it actually be possible to do otherwise?

I am both thrilled & haply surprised to hear about the Positive News Agency proposal.

In 2008, someone proposed that to be regulated by law in the Romanian Parliament, but it died out quickly as some media representatives extinguished the initiative seeking the so called ‘freedom of speech’ argument clause.

Personally, I certainly believe that it will eventually emerge out of the ‘darkness’ of nowadays news flood like a lotus flower, overshadowing the mud around.

If we think of a simple metaphorical vision, where positive news are made of light and the prevalent negative news are like darkness, it would make sense to explore - and thus understand easily - that wherever there is lack of goodness & goodwill trouble manifests itself - absorbing (and sometimes imprisoning) our impulsive attention (capturing our time and even life breath too often) - leaving the dark night of error instead of the effulgent day of joy.

But, as the morning of hope ALWAYS sheds light upon the lack of it over the ending night, so shall sooner or later Positive News Agency initiative will ignite the sparkle of useful truths.

When uttering the above, I was inspired by the Writings of Baha’u'llah (1817-1892), who shared with humanity some century & a half ago, this Positive News:

“So powerful is the Light of Unity that it can illumine the whole world!” - http://www.bahaullah.org

I am sincerely grateful to anyone who sacrificed time to read this comment.
