Any kind of project will initiate some kind of change, whether that\u2019s a change to the way you communicate with clients to a restructure of a team. It\u2019s important for organisations to understand how they can re-engineer their processes to make change more effective, often this is through ensuring their \u2018project people\u2019 have the support, skills and resources to be able to deliver on time, on budget and on target. In the article \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/ready-set-go-does-your-organisation-support-projects\/\">Ready, Set, Go \u2013 Does Your Organisation Support Projects?<\/a>\u2019 we:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Looked at how an organisation can support projects.<\/li>\n<li>Where a major organisation failed and the changes they have recognised.<\/li>\n<li>Reviewed project success factors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here we review some snapshots from research that supports the need for organisation to manage change:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Modern enterprises are currently faced with unprecedented levels of change which provides a constant threat to their success and, in many cases, survival (Major Projects Authority Annual Report 2015).<\/li>\n<li>Greater \u2018Maturity\u2019 in Project and Programme Management is positively correlated to success in delivering the Organisation\u2019s strategy and contributes to the speed of implementation and resilience to setbacks at Level 3 (Established) programme, project &amp; PMO functions support project delivery on schedule &amp; to budget 64% more often than their Level 1 (Immature) PMO competitors. (PWC Report Dec 2012).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cranfield-project-maturity_copyright-Indigo-Training.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1619 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cranfield-project-maturity_copyright-Indigo-Training-1024x420.jpg\" alt=\"Cranfield project maturity_copyright Indigo Training\" width=\"584\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cranfield-project-maturity_copyright-Indigo-Training-1024x420.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cranfield-project-maturity_copyright-Indigo-Training-300x123.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cranfield-project-maturity_copyright-Indigo-Training-500x205.jpg 500w, https:\/\/wpblog.indigobusiness.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cranfield-project-maturity_copyright-Indigo-Training.jpg 1779w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Moving from Level 1 to Level 3 is underpinned by the widespread and consistent application of Best Practice Methodology and documentation, together with appropriate Project and Programme Management training. There is often a misalignment of \u2018Run the Business\u2019 and \u2018Change the Business\u2019.\u00a0Fit-for-purpose governance strongly influences project and programme success (PWC Report Dec 2012).<\/li>\n<li>To move from level 3 to Level 4 and beyond is facilitated by \u2018soft skills\u2019 development, e.g. \u2018Stakeholder management\u2019 skills, project leadership, communication skills and the ability to deal with socio-political complexity (described as \u201cproper hard\u201d by Dr Harvey Maylor, Dr Neil Turner and Dr Murray-Webster in their paper \u2018How Hard Can It Be?).<\/li>\n<li>Project Management is \u2018mission critical\u2019 to the Government\u2019s ability to spend Taxpayer money wisely. (\u201cWe never forget that there is no such thing as government money, only taxpayers\u2019 money. People have worked hard to earn it so we have a duty to spend it wisely. Better project management is critical to that mission\u201d \u2013 Major Projects Authority Annual Report 2015).<\/li>\n<li>People, tools and methodology are under-utilised but provide \u2018low hanging fruit\u2019 for improving programme and project execution through training, standardisation and automation. In low-performing organisations PM staff are much less likely to have formal PM qualifications, hands-on-experience and extensive PM knowledge.
