Occasionally you will be asked to lead<\/em> enormous projects of epic proportions.\u00a0 \"Don't<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The problem is the bigger the project; the more complex they become, in every possible way.\u00a0 <\/span>From the number of intended deliverables to the budget, to the breadth and importance of stakeholders; these are what I call \u2018Elephant Sized Projects.\u2019 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So, what do you do when you find yourself in this position?\u00a0 <\/span>Options include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

a)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Call a meeting and spend vast amounts of time debating the importance of the elephant to the business.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

b)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Do nothing.\u00a0 <\/span>Hopefully people will forget the elephant is in the room!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

c)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Delegate the care of the elephant to someone else.\u00a0 <\/span>Their problem now, phew.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

d)<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Eat the elephant in small bites.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As appealing as Options A to C are, they are not a tried and tested formula for long-term career progression. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
